Ashley Lynette Brown, an award-winning performer and New York native, is currently making her mark on the Los Angeles acting scene. Dubbed ‘a young Angela Bassett and Lynn Whitfield’ combo by coaches, directors and peers, Ashley is a commanding performer who delivers her work with soulful authenticity and an electrifying intensity both onstage and onscreen. She also packs an exceptional singing voice with the effortless versatility to move between genres, whether it be pop/rock, R&B, jazz, or legit musical theatre.
An 8-year old Ashley found herself in line at an open call for Disney’s the Lion King on Broadway one very frigid December day. With over six hundred plus Young Nala hopefuls, she was called back with five other girls for the part and almost immediately signed with her first manager and agent thereafter. She was cast in her first commercial State Farm Insurance by legendary director Spike Lee, and followed that up with a bevy of national commercials, notably; Burger King with the Backstreet Boys, Verizon DSL and MTV’s long running “Half of Us” PSA. She has also appeared in several award-winning independent films, including “I Don’t Know, Alaska!” and “Parting Words,” as well as in popular television shows and spots on Nickelodeon.
After graduating from the acclaimed Tisch School of the Arts at NYU with a B.F.A. in Drama, Ashley went on to perform in summer stock in Montana. She then returned to New York City to perform in the Off-Broadway Alliance nominated, original production of “Show Way” at the Vital Theater.
In the past year alone she has performed in the award-winning original production of “Recorded in Hollywood” at the Kirk Douglas Theatre and “The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess” in the iconic role of Clara at the Ensemble Theatre Company. As Ashley continues to learn more about her craft, she diligently works to help fellow performers and creatives find their voice through her blog UNABASHED on her self-titled website www.AshleyLBrown.com.
